Osteoarthritis of the joints
Why we focus on osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is most frequent

There are an estimated 100 different kinds of joint diseases. Osteoarthritis (OA) - scientists also call it "arthrosis" - is by far the most frequent of them all. That is why we focus all our efforts on OA.

Destruction of cartilage layer

At the heart of OA lies a destruction of the thin layers of cartilage in the diseased joint. If this thin layer is destroyed or worn off, bone comes into contact with bone and the joint reacts with swelling, pain and deformation. In addition, the affected joint loses its strength and, depending on the joint affected, life may take a different turn.

Simple causes - difficult treatment

The causes for cartilage destruction are manifold: injuries, accidents, overloading joints for years - either at work or unintentionally in sports - or simply by some genetic weakness of the tissues in the joints, passed on in the family through heredity. Treatment, however, can be most demanding and much more research is needed to find true healing for all cases. That is why we urge you to join forces with others and help support the highest level of research needed to help restore the health of osteoarthritic joints.
